Then the Talking Faith Intensive School is for you!
This course is foundational for Lay Preachers, Worship Leaders, Mission Workers and people engaged in other forms of Christian Leadership. It acts as an introduction to Christian thinking about God and explores how faith is understood in the Uniting Church in Australia.
This Unit lays the groundwork for subsequent studies in the areas of: Critical thinking; Theology; Homiletics (Preaching); the Catechumenate (preparing people for Baptism); Discipleship Development (growing people in faith and ministry).
This study is foundational for Lay Preachers and Worship Leaders. It is grounded in the context of Congregational Worship in Uniting Churches, with a particular focus on Regular Worship Services in the Community of Faith. It lays the groundwork for subsequent studies in the areas of: Music for Worship; Funerals, Memorials and Celebrations of Life; Sacramental Worship; Community Worship; Rites of Passage; etc…
This is one of 4 modules:
- Proclaiming Jesus Christ (Christology)
- Exploring the Old Testament (OT Foundations)
- Exploring the New Testament (NT Foundations)
- Talking Faith (Theology—Uniting Church Perspectives)
Skills related to proclamation of God's good news and leading worshipping communities will be incorporated in each of these modules. Students who attend all 4 modules will also have completed the study components for Worship and Preaching.
These Lay Preacher modules will be competency based and use multiple methods of learning and assessment including reflections, journaling, group and individual presentations, film, workshops and lectures.
Some pre-reading will be required and there is an expectation that some preparatory work will be undertaken and brought to the LP School. The first assignment, is due on Day 1. You will need to bring this completed to the School. More information will be given on enrolment.
