Amelia Koh-Butler

Amelia has a background in music, creative arts, youth work and ministry. She was an Accredited Youth Worker of the Uniting Church in Australia and has previously served in a number of contexts – congregational (St.David’s-Lindfield, Chatswood-Willoughby and Turramurra); educational (Abbotsleigh, Killara, Wesley Institute, Glenaeon, Sydney Conservatorium and CSU); and community (Streetwork). Amelia was ordained as a Minister of the Word on 26th September, 2008.

Amelia has a particular interest and passion for helping congregations to develop ministry with young people and their families and communities. Formerly an opera singer and contemporary music producer, she enjoys encouraging people in the practical aspects of worship development... such as: singing, creative use of drama and reading, using colour and movement and developing informative and engaging preaching and teaching.

Amelia is keen to get alongside Elders, Lay Preachers, Pastors and others called into Leadership to discover/explore new ways and rediscover/reinvent good practices that will help the 21st century church be relevant and helpful vehicles of God's love and grace in Australia. Recently, she has been working with a variety of rural groups to develop practical skills in Lay Ministry Teams. This can involve a range of different activities: team-building and retreats; developing common goals and ways of evaluating progress; developing communication action plans; helping teams understand steps to implementing mission plans; faith-sharing experiences and training; understanding and facilitating worship; pastoral care and visitation strategies; etc...

Amelia was born in Australia with a Celtic-Chinese background. Hence, her particular interest in cross-culturalism and second generation hyphenated-identity issues. She became a Christian at the age of 14 and has experience serving in Anglican, Catholic, Presbyterian and Uniting Church settings.
