year's May Macleod Lecture.
Each year, the Board of
Education holds a public lecture in the memory of May
Macleod, a lay woman dedicated to the sharing of faith and
love in order to present the many ministries in which
people of God serve, particularly the ministries of “the
meek, those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, the
merciful, the pure in heart, the humble, the peacemakers”.
The primary aim of this lecture is to present issues of
concern to the church and its members in a form that is
accessible for ordinary people and that will encourage and
support their ministry within the body of Christ including
the wider community.
May Macleod
“May Macleod represented within herself the traditions of
Scottish Presbyterianism in which she was nutured from
childhood, leading her to set high standards, in
particular, in the proclamation of the Word of God, the
pastoral role of the minister, and the office of Eldership.
She was well acquainted also with the administration of the
mission of the Church beyond the parish, and her
expectations were associated not only with dedication but
also with efficiency in management. In making her judgments
known to those called this to minister in holy things she
“spoke the truth in love” while striving herself to be true
to those ideals.
May Macleod (2.3.1913 to 24.10.1984) was the wife of the
Revd Malcolm Macleod, a former Moderator of the N.S.W.
Synod of the Uniting Church, who served both the
Presbyterian Church of Australia, and the Uniting Church in
Australia, in N.S.W. in varied areas of significant
influence and responsibility. In all his ministries within
and without the parish she was ardently supportive of him.”
